Government Forms for Employees (New and Continuing)

These documents need to be filled in by all new employees before starting a new job.  The tax withholding forms also should be updated by all employees each January or when there is a change in circumstance.

Individual Income Tax Resources

Your Income Tax (IRS Publication 17) - a very complete summary of individual tax issues.  While it suffers from the bias of its publisher (the IRS), it is free and a good starting point for general issues.  The above is the online version for 2000.  For a look at the 2001 version, you can look at the PDF version here.
Tax Guide for Investors - Kaye Thomas has written an excellent guide on a number of investment issues.  Especially useful are the sections on employer granted stock options.
Form 8332 Release of Claim to Exemption for Child of Divorced or Separated Parents - this is the form you must have signed by the custodial parent to claim a child as a dependent if you did not have physical custody over half of the year.
Usenet misc.taxes.moderated discussion group - this is the Deja site which archives various usenet groups including this one.

General Economic Information

Consumer Price Index - from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  If you want a quick look at the impact of inflation, take a look at the inflation calculator.
Statistical Abstract of the United States - selection of PDF files containing a wide variety of Census Bureau statistics
White House Economic Statistics Briefing Room - links to a number of pieces of information about the economy published by the federal government

Newspapers

Newspapers across the country are publishing online sites that in many cases duplicate almost all of the paper version.  We've added a couple of Midwestern papers for those who have moved out here from the Midwest.

Arizona Republic - The New Official Site or Arizona Central seem to offer much the same stories, so select the look you prefer.
New York Times - the site requires you to register in order to look beyond the front page

FAA Airline Delay Information - real time information on delays at most major US airports
FlightTrakker - From Trip.com's page, you can get updates on status and arrival times of flights in progress.  Simply give this site the airline and flight number you are interested in.
Sky Harbor Arrival/Departures - updated arrival and departure information (including gate assignments) for flights in or out of Terminals 3 and 4.

Internet Search Engines

Yahoo! - the most popular search engine
Google - may be the best choice if you don't want to learn to use the advanced features of other sites but want searches that return the most likely items you are searching for
